Mint Street Food Trail

Madras or Chennai as it is known today may not have a cuisine of its own but is a melting pot of different cuisines drawn from various cultures and communities. Every area boasts unique flavours and delicacies introduced by communities that have inhabited them. One such area is Sahukar-pet (Sahukar means money lender in Hindi) or Sowcarpet as known today. The dominant image of the area is of narrow lanes filled with shops that sell everything under the sun from clothing and utensils to electronics, paper, and spices.

Mint Street, is one of the prime streets in George Town, one of the city’s oldest commercial hubs.  The street is one of the oldest streets in Chennai and is also believed to be the longest. Known for its street food, particularly vegetarian food on account of the Jain settlements here, the Mint Street food trail is an iconic gastronomical experience.
